Overview

The ELT Toolkit is not one programme. It is ten short, standalone workshops, each teaching one essential skill. Each workshop is a single session, and the workshops are held separately, not one after another. Some are online and some are in person, and we confirm the format of each when we announce it.

Join the workshops you need, or book the whole set at a discount. The Toolkit is designed for English graduates and students with no teaching experience: you get practical techniques and the confidence to start teaching from day one.

What you will be able to do

The ten workshops

1. Lesson Planning from Scratch

Setting objectives, structuring a lesson (warm-up, presentation, practice, production), and timing realistically.

Our anchor workshop and most popular.

2. Classroom Management

Routines, attention-getting techniques, handling disruption, and setting expectations on day one.

Often the biggest worry for new teachers.

3. Teaching Grammar Without Lecturing

Moving from knowing grammar to explaining it simply: concept-checking questions, examples, and inductive and deductive approaches.

4. Teaching Vocabulary and Pronunciation

Presenting new words, helping them stick, and handling common pronunciation problems.

5. Teaching Speaking and Listening

Designing activities that get students talking, and scaffolding listening tasks so they are not just tests.

6. Teaching Reading and Writing

Pre-, while- and post-reading stages, building writing from sentence to paragraph, and giving useful written feedback.

7. Assessment and Feedback

Formative and summative assessment, writing simple tests and rubrics, and giving feedback that actually improves learning.

8. Error Correction and Giving Instructions

Deciding when and how to correct, and how to give clear instructions. Many first lessons fall apart on unclear instructions.

9. Teaching Different Learners

Young learners, teens, adults, mixed-level classes, and shy or unmotivated students.

10. Teaching Exam Classes (IELTS and similar)

Understanding exam formats, teaching test strategies, and marking writing and speaking against band descriptors.
